I had to do a nursing intervention in the parking lot of my gym last year. I noticed an adult daughter with her elderly dad who was unstable on his feet and down on one knee. She was struggling to get him up and panicking. I went to their assistance and helped get him into their car. After thanking me she looked me square in the eye and said, “Are you a nurse?” I smiled and said I was. She then asked me some questions related to getting help for him at home. Talk about fieldwork! The whole incident reminded me of why I’m a nurse and I was so glad to be there when they needed me. You never know when you’ll be able to make a difference in someone’s life.
